Talking about university studies
Sarah: Hey Yuki, I heard you’re studying environmental science at university. What’s it like?
Yuki: Yeah, I am. It’s really interesting. Right now, we’re learning about climate change.
Sarah: Oh, like global warming and stuff?
Yuki: Exactly. We look at how the earth’s temperature is rising and what causes it—like too much carbon dioxide.
Sarah: That sounds serious. Do you also study how to fix it?
Yuki: A little. In another class, we study renewable energy. You know, solar panels and wind turbines.
Sarah: Oh, I see! So clean energy, right?
Yuki: Yes! We learn how those systems work and why they’re better than fossil fuels.
Sarah: That’s really cool. Do you guys do any practical work?
Yuki: Yeah, last semester we did a water quality test near the river. It was fun but also a bit sad.
Sarah: Why sad?
Yuki: Because the water had signs of pollution. We tested for chemicals and bacteria.
Sarah: Wow, I didn’t know you did things like that. Do you like the major so far?
Yuki: I do. Each topic is connected, and I feel like I’m learning something important.
Sarah: Sounds like it. Do you want to work in that field in the future?
Yuki: Yeah, maybe at a company that works on clean energy. I still have time to decide, though.
Sarah: You’re already learning so much. I’m kind of jealous!
Yuki: Haha, thanks. Let me know if you ever want to join one of our open lectures!
