Japan's unique history
Taka: Hi Jennifer, I’m glad we came to this museum today.
Jennifer: Me too, Taka! Everything here is so interesting.
Taka: Did you see the samurai armor?
Jennifer: Yes! It looks really cool. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Taka: Samurai were warriors in old Japan. They followed a strong code of honor.
Jennifer: That sounds very serious. Were they like knights?
Taka: A little, yes. They protected their lords and fought in many battles.
Jennifer: I think I’d be scared to meet one!
Taka: Don’t worry! They also had respect and discipline.
Jennifer: I like that. I saw a big picture of a castle too. Was that real?
Taka: Yes, it’s a famous Japanese castle. We have many castles like that.
Jennifer: They look different from Western castles. More elegant, I think.
Taka: That’s true. Japanese castles were also made for defense and power.
Jennifer: Some of the rooftops were really beautiful!
Taka: Good eye! Each castle has a special design.
Jennifer: Oh, and I saw pictures of cherry blossoms. Do you celebrate them?
Taka: Yes! We have a tradition called “hanami” where we enjoy the flowers.
Jennifer: That sounds fun. Do people have parties outside?
Taka: Yes, they bring food, talk, and watch the blossoms together.
Jennifer: I want to try that! It looks peaceful and pretty.
Taka: If you visit in spring, I’ll take you to a hanami spot.
Jennifer: Thank you, Taka! I’m really starting to love Japanese culture.
