Business manners in Japan
Business manners in Japan
Alex: Hi Haruka. This is my first week in Japan. Everything is new for me.
Haruka: Hi Alex. Welcome to Japan! How is your work so far?
Alex: It’s good, but I worry about Japanese manners. I want to be polite.
Haruka: You are doing well. In Japan, being on time is very important.
Alex: Yes, I heard that. I try to come 10 minutes early every day.
Haruka: That’s great. Japanese people like people who are on time.
Alex: In America, people are sometimes a little late. It’s different.
Haruka: Yes, the culture is different. Also, we use very polite words at work.
Alex: I’m trying! I say “Arigatou gozaimasu” a lot.
Haruka: Good! That is a very polite word. Keep using it.
Alex: Thank you. I also saw everyone wears suits. So I wear mine too.
Haruka: Yes. In Japan, we dress very neatly at work.
Alex: It feels a little strict, but I understand. It shows respect.
Haruka: Right. So, in Japan, we are on time, speak politely, and dress well.
Alex: Got it. I will remember those three.
Haruka: If you do that, you will be fine. Everyone will respect you.
Alex: Thank you, Haruka. Let’s work hard together.
Haruka: Yes! Let’s do our best as new team members.
